Strength & Workouts

Workouts you can do today, from The Great Workouts series to sets and reps, lifting technique, warm-ups and simple plans that get results without wasting time.

You want to tighten; You want to tone. You don’t want to get too big. Everyone wants to get fitter. No one wants to buy a new wardrobe. We hear ya. And we have some good news: it.
Einstein’s definition of insanity: ‘doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results.’ What about watching other people do the same things over and again while expecting different results? Can that drive you mad? If so I’m cracked. I’ve seen too many people work out too hard, get injured, then return only to work TOO HARD again. Sub maximal training is where the results are. Science says as much.
9 Tufts Lacrosse players were hospitalized recently after a 45 minute training session with a newly minted Navy Seal. Naturally I was excited because it gives me a chance to talk about 2 important training concepts: progressive overload and pain as language.
The Truth is like poetry. And most people fucking hate poetry. – Adam McKay Warm ups are like the truth.
Working out just got easier. 5 X’s easier. This is an “easy” workout that gets results. Even if you’re busy you have enough time for this workout; even if you’ve never worked out before you can still do this workout; even if you’re experienced this workout can improve your fitness. Given all that, don’t you want to know what this workout entails?
‘If something is worth doing, it’s worth doing every day.’ I have a new theory: all it takes is five daily exercises to get fit. And you know what that means? It means I’m getting ripped this summer. This is the simplest exercise plan ever. So simple not even I can mess it up.
Attention spans these days are like the Easter Bunny. Non existent. I can’t realistically expect you to go to the gym for hours.  Too many distractions. So let’s streamline your workout so you get in and out in as quickly as possible; a gym assassin.  That means cutting redundant, minimally effective exercises from your routine, and incorporating only those that give you a good return on investment. We’re gonna cut it down to the bone so that we have extra time for Netflix and doom scrolling. These exercises are a waste of time.
There are so many things to think about when one becomes pregnant. Should I workout is probably pretty low on that list. However, when you consider that Prenatal workouts may prevent gestational diabetes, relieve stress, and build more stamina needed for labor and delivery, suddenly safe prenatal workouts become a priority.
What kind of “strong” are you? Strength is relative. Distance runners talk a lot about feeling “strong” in the last mile of a race. While weightlifters laugh. ‘You call that strength, huh?’ All the while I’ve referred to people I practice yoga alongside as having a “strong” practice. But wouldn’t precisely label some of them as being strong.
