Mindset & Motivation

Motivation, goal setting, meditation and the mindset habits that keep you training long after the excitement of a new year’s resolution wears off.

Maverick has aged as well as you can.   Is it good genes?  Luck?  Botox?  A secret diet?  I think it’s a bit of everything; and I’d add one more reason to the list, perhaps the most important one. Discomfort.
In the beginning… every time I stepped in the gym I hit some new milestone. The weights went up, and up, and up; and my confidence went up, and up.  Kinda like when I started running pretty seriously: the times came down, confidence went up. Or like when I immersed myself in yoga: I hit new poses; my confidence soared. That confidence is a drug. If only I could maintain that ascendant feeling: to perennially increase confidence in the gym.
This is a powerful story about Depression, gratitude, speaking things into existence and how Allison Men take care of one another.
Citius, Altius, Fortius is the motto of the Olympic games. Translated- Faster, higher, stronger, i.e. improvement. Of self; of sport; of (hopefully) international relations. Improvement is inspiring. To quote Tony Robbins “Progress = happiness”. Progress is addictive; It builds self esteem; It motivates you to stick to the goal. but it doesn’t happen by accident: there are steps to improvement.
Every person who turned their fitness around put their own unique twist on it. They figured out that it ain’t the notes, it’s how you play them.
You’re flipping channels when inevitably one of those movies draws you in. You know the ones I’m talking about. They’re always on. You tell yourself you’re only going to watch for a few minutes, or to the next commercial, and end up blowing off plans to finish the whole thing.  Money ball is one of those movies for me. It’s a quintessential David vs Goliath story, only in this one David (the small market Oakland A’s) win by outsmarting the mega market Goliaths (Boston and NYC). They couldn’t out-spend the bigger teams, so they found valuable players by looking at stats differently.
Want to accomplish everything you dream: set goals. Goal setting makes you 10 times more likely to achieve your dream. Writing down your goals makes you 40%+ more likely to achieve them. Those who set goals are 30% more productive in their work.
You were born 9-5-22. I have no idea what I’m doing with you, so I’ll talk about something I do know. When it came time to choose a path your Dad asked himself ‘what was the most powerful experience of my life’ (before meeting you of course)? It was getting fit. Here’s some fitness wisdom.
The most common excuse to not work out is: I don’t have enough time to work out. Oh really?
