Here’s the study: two groups are on a strict weight loss diet. They both eat the same number of calories and exercise the same amount. Group 1 loses 5 lbs on average. Group 2 loses 11. The difference: Group 2 consumed a tablespoon of apple cider vinegar before meals. This, folks, is the benefit of Apple Cider Vinegar.
The Many benefits of Apple Cider vinegar
Sounds to good to be true but here’s the why, as told by Jessie Inchauspe in her book ‘Glucose Revolution’.
Need more proof? How about first hand experience? I’m down 15 lbs in 2.5 months. I would attribute this transformation to 4 things:
- Switching from Coke to diet Coke.
- Curbing glucose spikes by eating fewer carbs.
- Softening glucose spikes by eating something green (salad, broccoli or a handful of spinach) before every meal.
- Taking a shot of ACV (cut with a glass of water bc firstly, ick, that taste, and secondly it’s bad for your teeth).
Anecdotal Benefits of Apple Cider Vinegar
My continuous glucose monitor confirms ACV’s effectiveness. Eating a bowl of pasta would boost my blood glucose to around 170 and would return to normal in about 2 hours, whereas, Drinking ACV cuts that to a 45 minute spike peaking at 135. The glucose is landing softer and being metabolized more efficiently. The proof is right in the numbers.
My coworker and fellow CGM user Megan has noticed additional weight loss and lower body fat percentage since adding ACV to her Athletic Greens in the morning (the bitter balances the sweet).
So it’s a miracle drink. Not so fast. You still have to eat fairly well, and you still have to exercise, and you still have to work out with one of our fabulous trainers at Fit.
Already doing all that?
Still stuck on a plateau?
Well, ACV, or pretty much any vinegar (cut w water to curb the taste and save your teeth), may be just the thing to push you past that next hump.
