The power of Optimistic Self Talk
Tough week. How about a pick me up?
I subscribe to something called Notes from the Universe (TUT). Every morning they deliver a quick note (see above) to get your mind moving in the right direction.
Some days they are trite.
While some days they land in my consciousness like a sack of bricks.
And then some days they’re a trite stack of bricks; like a getting a personal email from Ted Lasso.
Regardless- reading something uplifting first thing in the morning sets the tone for the rest of the day.
Turns out tone and self talk are important. Reading something uplifting, and practicing optimistic self talk improve outcomes.

Science proves Optimism works
| 1000’s of studies tried to find a benefit of negative self talk, and They all failed. Meanwhile, studies link optimism and positive thinking to: increased life span greater success at work greater over all well being Better workouts (cosign- seen it) Optimism can be learned. Practiced. Developed as a skill. Unfortunately, there’s not enough space here for a helpful rundown of things like reframing, or practicing positive self talk. We’ll just have to trust the experts at the mayo clinic who write: “If you tend to have a negative outlook, don’t expect to become an optimist overnight. But with practice, eventually your self-talk will contain less self-criticism and more self-acceptance. You may also become less critical of the world around you. When your state of mind is generally optimistic, you’re better able to handle everyday stress in a more constructive way. That ability may contribute to the widely observed health benefits of positive thinking.” So come on… give it a try. Dig in. Watch a youtube clip on how to embrace positivity. All those annoying happy kids are doing it. Look at ‘em: working out, looking good, listening to Stevie Wonder in their new car, going to that job they love, living with that family they adore, smiling those big beautiful smiles. Ya know they’re probably just as aware of the world… they just seeing it differently. |

Right again, Damn it!
