We say ‘I’m not flexible’, ‘I’m not strong’, or even, gasp, ‘I’m slow’, like we can’t do something about it. There are things that can’t be taught, like luck, or being 7 feet, 300 lbs, but every athletic skill can, in fact, be taught. Take, for example, speed. Speed can be taught.

We all start off as great movers in childhood, but lose much of our mobility and flexibility as we age. The brain, sensing no need/given no opportunity, conveniently forgets movement maps. It’s called Sensory motor amnesia.
In the beginning… every time I stepped in the gym I hit some new milestone. The weights went up, and up, and up; and my confidence went up, and up.  Kinda like when I started running pretty seriously: the times came down, confidence went up. Or like when I immersed myself in yoga: I hit new poses; my confidence soared. That confidence is a drug.
